Since his stunning star turn at the PGA Championship in Oak Hill, pro club champ Michael Block has been looking everywhere.
He was awarded a sponsor exemption at the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial as well as the RBC Canadian Open. And although he didn’t qualify for this year’s US Open, he was in spot at the Los Angeles Country Club.
In addition to the allure of the epic atmosphere, Block was on hand as an ambassador for Dewar, getting in on the action while enjoying the official cocktail of the US Open, Dewar’s Lemon Wedge.
“I still to this day pinch myself in the morning,” Block told golf representative James Colgan. “When I walk in here at the US Open and people know me, I just feel amazing.”
Colgan tapped Block’s brain on a handful of topics, including Block’s “Father’s Day grudge match” at his SoCal club, Arroyo Trabuco, with his dad, who just turned 76, and two boys, ages 16 and 18.
“My dad can still shoot in the low 70s on a fairly consistent basis,” Block shared. “It’s not tips anymore. But he can still do it.”
Block also expressed his love for the Lemon Dewar wedge.
“I’ve been here for three days,” he said, “and I think that’s more than my second lemon.” “They’re absolutely gorgeous. Dewar’s is the official Scotch whiskey of the US Open, and since I’m not playing, I might as well drink it.”
And to that we say, cheers!
