Midfielder Justin Herbert joins a new team. But don’t worry, Chargers fans, he’s not going anywhere. Continuing the recent trend of influencers and athletes from other sports being linked to equipment manufacturers, the San Diego signal-caller has become the latest high-profile name to strike a multi-year deal with Callaway Golf.
As part of the deal, the 25-year-old will play Callaway equipment and appear in branded content; He will also continue to support junior golf initiatives as a brand ambassador.
“Golf is a sport that’s about accuracy and that’s something that resonates with me as a quarterback,” said Herbert, who has become passionate about golf over the past several years of living in San Diego. “That’s why I’m thrilled to be collaborating with Callaway, a brand that understands the importance of attention to detail and the value of hard work. Whether I’m playing a round with friends or playing for my annual golf invitational, I know I can count on Callaway to provide me with the equipment and support I need to succeed.”
Callaway has expanded its portfolio of ambassadors beyond the professional golf ranks in recent years. In 2019, the brand announced a multi-year partnership with sharpshooter Stephen Curry on the Golden State Warriors—deal renewed in 2023—that has led to several initiatives focused on expanding the game to disadvantaged and underrepresented youth. (It should be noted that Callaway has always been forward-thinking with its brand ambassadors. Rock legend Alice Cooper is actually Callaway’s longest-serving employee.)
Herbert hopes to do the same for a Callaway employee. According to the equipment manufacturer, Herbert and Callaway first connected last year when he sparred with recent Masters champion and Callaway employee, John Rahm during Nickelodeon’s first-ever golf broadcast.
During the event, Callaway and Herbert acknowledged their “shared passion for making the game more fun and engaging, especially for young players new to golf.” Shortly thereafter, the two sides began discussing the possibility of Herbert signing an ambassadorial deal.

“We are proud to have Justin Herbert as the newest member of the Callaway Golf team,” said Callaway Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Nick McInally. “Justin is not only one of the best midfielders in football, but he’s also incredibly passionate about golf and helping to get more people, especially kids, into the game. We’re excited to work with him on golf-specific activities and look forward to being able to share some great content Which we have already picked up in the coming months.”
Herbert has been the face of the Chargers franchise since he was drafted 6th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. He has already set several records in his first three seasons, including the most touchdowns (31) and most 300-yard passing games (8) by a player rising middle.
