“Slava Claus” scored an emphatic technical knockout victory over the UFC Apex on Saturday night.
Viacheslav Borshchev embarked on a two-legged skirmish at UFC Fight Night 223, defeating Maheshate Hayiser via technical knockout in their preliminary lightweight encounter. Borchev flashed his strength on multiple occasions. After a competitive battling for the majority of the opening frame, Team Alpha Male producer Hayiser dropped a shortstop near the end of the period. The show continued into the second frame. Borschoff sat his Chinese opponent down with another early in the period before putting Hayiser away with the finish sequence moments later. Borchev has finished with six of his seven professional victories via KO or TKO.
Kowalkiewicz, Stymies Demopoulos
Former strawweight title contender Karolina Kowalkiewicz earned her third straight promotion win, taking a three-round referee over Vanessa Dimopoulos in the 115-pound pair. Pole received three 30-27 scorecards from the cage judges. Dimopoulos, who lost 1.5 pounds, sees a three-way winning streak that ended in defeat.
Kowalkiewicz (15-7, 8-7 UFC) enforced the terms of engagement for the majority of the fight, marking her opponent with crisp, clean punching combinations to the head. As the match progressed, Dimopoulos (9-5, 3-2 UFC) was bloodied and battered from the attack. Dimopoulos’ best attack happened early in the fight, when she briefly stunned Kowalkiewicz with a left hook. Moments like this were few and far between, with Kowalkiewicz showing outstanding size and precision during the exchanges.
Urbina crunches cosce
“The Ultimate Fighter 29” Gilbert Urbina body-slammed opponent Orion Cosce, paving the way for a second-round technical knockout win in their welterweight bout. Urbina put his opponent away at the 2:55 mark of round 2 for his first TKO win since 2014. Cosé (8-2, 1-2 UFC) lost 1.5 pounds on Friday.
Urbina (7-2, 1-1 UFC) dominated the opening segment, as he assumed he was complete and attacked Cosce with elbows and punches from the top. He beat Cosée to the last century, but his opponent was able to survive. But breaking into the tours was only a brief respite. An early forehand kick in the second round blew Cosé out, and Urbina capitalized by landing the maneuver again shortly thereafter.
With Cosé doubling in pain, Urbina followed with a pair of knees before chain alum Dana White Contender collapsed to the mat, ending the contest.
Birth edges cute
American Top Team producer Rodrigo Nascimento earned his second straight promotion victory, taking a split decision over former 205-pound rival Ilir Latifi at the heavyweight junk. Derek Cleary and Sal D’Amato scored the bout 29-28 in favor of Nascimento (10-1, 3-1, 1 NC UFC), while Jacob Montalvo saw it 29-28 in favor of Latifi (16-9, 1 NC, 9). -7 UFC).
Nascimento’s defense held well for the majority of the match, as Latifi was unable to hold the Brazilian off for an extended amount of time in the latter half of the second round. Short counters – including a left hook that landed consistently. Latifi had one last moment of aggression in the final segment, but it wasn’t enough to sway the scorecards in his favour.
Hopper beats Fury up
Showcasing an improved standby game, Dana White’s Chase Hopper alum outlasted New England Cartel producer Nick Fiore en route to a unanimous decision victory at lightweight. The 23-year-old Combat Sport & Fitness export earned numbers 30-26, 30-27 and 30-27 from the judges to win his debut at 155lbs after a promotional stint of five bouts at featherweight.
While Hooper (12-3-1, 4-3 UFC) was scrambling and threatening calls though the bout, his attacking ability on the feet proved to be the difference against a fellow wrestler. “Dream” willingly attacked his opponent with long punches and a variety of kicks, elbows and knees in close quarters. Hooper almost finished the bout when he shook Fury (6-2, 0-2 UFC) with an elbow later in the first round and beat his punches before saving his opponent with the horn.
Silva passes through Leonardo
Former Jungle Fight Champion Natalia Silva extended her winning streak to nine wins by technical knockout over Victoria Leonardo in the flyweight issue. Silva (15-5-1, 3-0 UFC) finished the contest 2:58 into the first round, the promotion’s second straight finish in Las Vegas.
Silva was clearly faster to the punch than Leonardo (9-5, 1-3 UFC) from the start, and she set the stage for the stop by sitting her opponent down with a left hook about halfway through the first round. Fail, Silva
She shook her felt enemy with her right hand and a high kick shortly thereafter. Leonardo could do nothing more than wallow over the fence from there, prompting referee Kerry Hatley to step in on her behalf..
Jorembo handed Sato a fourth consecutive defeat
South Africa’s Themba Jorembu relied on takedowns and positional control to secure a unanimous decision against veteran Pakrasi Takashi Sato in their welterweight bout. All three judges submitted scorecards in favor of the former Extreme Fighting Championship title holder: 30-27, 30-27 and 30-27. Sato (15-7, 2-5 UFC) has lost his last four matches in the Octagon.
Jorembo (11-4, 1-1 UFC) has been relentless in his pursuit of takedowns, creating nearly all of his memorable moments in the process. In addition to logging a large amount of control time, Jorembo held back his opponent in the first and third frames while knocking Sato down with a massive header in the second round. A knockdown, but the Kill Cliff FC representative was able to survive the attack.
