The 2023 US Women’s Open winner will receive a $2 million check as part of a record $11 million purse at Pebble Beach.
Last month, the Women’s PGA Championship paid out $1.5 million to the winner as part of the event’s overall $10 million purse, reinforcing the trend of ballooning tournament prize winnings on the LPGA Tour.
“I just have to say as someone who’s spent a lot of their life on the women’s side of the game, being sitting in Pebble Beach talking about going to Pine Valley, talking about 12 hours of network TV and playing for $11 million,” said USGA CEO Mike Wan Wed Some things are better than you dream.”When you look back on 10 or 15 years ago, those are pretty big moments, and I hope we weren’t all so screwed up and in such a hurry and iPhone-driven that we missed out on these kind of great moments.”
The USGA has received a record number of event entries – 2,107, a record 250 – for the US Women’s Open. The winner took home a $1.8 million prize last year and a total of $10 million in winnings was distributed.
“It doesn’t matter what city you live in, what clothes you wear, or what clubs you play for,” said Shannon Rouillard, senior director of the US Open Women’s Championships. “If you can put the ball in the hole, you have a chance to play in the US Women’s Open.”
USF President Fred Birbal said Pebble Beach will host the US Women’s Open again in 2035, in a brief announcing the upcoming host sites.
“As a daddy’s girl, I can’t wait to see one of these amazing ladies sink 18 to win the US Open,” said Birbal. “I know that all little girls now also have their dream of drowning at 18, and what a special gift it is, not only for little ladies but for the whole game of golf.”
Future US Open Women’s locations include Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania next year and Erin Hills in Wisconsin in 2025. The Riviera Country Club followed in 2026, and the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, in 2027; Oakmont Country Club in 2028 and Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in 2029.
The 2029 event will take place weeks after the men’s event in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
