The main event at UFC 288 features a fight for the heavyweight championship, as a current reigning champion Aljamin Sterling takes on “Triple C” Henry Cejudo.
Sterling won the 135-pound title in controversial fashion at UFC 259 in 2021 when he was Peter Yan He hit an illegal knee and was disqualified. At UFC 273, Sterling made his rematch against Yan and proved he was the true champion, earning a split decision victory. In his latest appearance, “Funkmaster” took second place in the second round against former champion TJ Dillashaw.
Cejudo will return to action for the first time since May 9, 2020, when he retired from the sport of MMA after receiving a second-round TKO. Dominic Cruz. The Olympic gold medalist is riding a six-fight winning streak, which has included winning and defending titles in two different weight classes.

The co-main event of the evening will be welterweight Bilal Muhammad taking on Gilbert Burns. Muhammad rides a ridiculous 8-0, 1NC streak leading into the fight. Most recently he earned Performance of the Night honors when he finished off Shawn Brady in the second round at UFC 280. After losing to Khamza Chimaev, Burns returned to his winning ways by defeating Neil Magne via first round submission and most recently Jorge Masvidal by decision.
