The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to Newark, NJ, TONIGHT (Saturday, May 6, 2023) for the first time in over three years with a five-round pay-per-view (PPV) main event between Bantamweight roost-ruler, Aljamin Sterlingand welcoming back the former “double champion” weighing in at 125 and 135 pounds, Henry Cejudo. Round 1: Low kicks from Bedoya to the start. Williams tries to run wild sprints, and he just can’t land it clean. Solid counters from Bedoya. Big started a 1-2 from Williams one set after a minute. Bedoya continues to hold him as he comes up with his right hand. Williams puts him on the fence. My knees trading inside. They break up. Two minutes trading low kicks. Good for 1-2 Bedouin lands. Move to the right by Williams in turn. Body shots, then a blitz on the fence. Bedoya answers with counters. A heavy lead by Williams, then another with two minutes to go.
Knees the body of Bedoya’s clinching. A good knee by Williams on the exit. Low kick exchanges. Quick counter from Bedoya with minutes to go. Williams’ low kicks responded in kind. Great exchange on the fence. Bidoya catches a kick and can’t use it. Williams chased him down with a left hook, then put him over the fence at the bell. 10-9 Williams.

115 lbs.: Virna Jandiroba vs. Marina Rodriguez
First round: Rodriguez kept her distance, taking a jab. Double leg power puts Jandiroba over the top at the base of the fence. Rodriguez releases some of her elbows before accepting that she’s pinned to her seat. 1 minute later. Jandiroba tries to make her way higher to a suitable mountain. Short left hand. Looking at the back, one hook inward. More left hands, roughly in the 2-minute makeup. Jandiroba is content with half guarding. Short ground and pound. Two minutes to go.
More ground and pound from Jandiroba, who grabs Kimura when Rodriguez tries to make a move. The fence is in the way. She drops it and instead releases her elbows a minute early. Powerful kick by Rodriguez. Jandiruba returns to half guard. Rodriguez tries to get off her back. 10-9 Gandirupa.
Round 2: Ugly attempts at a backfist by Jandiroba. Tied up, eat the knee. Low one from Jandiroba in body lock. Rodriguez drove whizzing by the minute. Short left for Jandiruba. Jandiroba falls for a leg, and uses it to take first place in two minutes. Half guard for Jandiroba. A lot of pressure, not a lot of strikes. Two minutes to go.
Jandiroba looks to side control, but does so despite the fence getting in the way. One minute left. Rodriguez tries to hit the body off her back. Elbows from Jandiroba, then a potential north-south stranglehold. Rodriguez runs away and eats elbows up to the bell. 10-9 Gandirupa.
Round Three: Rodriguez faked a step-up and took a pair of punches for her trouble. Another failed spin for Jandiroba, who is eating mix. one minute in. Knee interception from Rodriguez. Jandiroba makes a shot, lands a variety, and eats one in return. A flying knee by Rodriguez gleefully slams into the ropes. Jandiroba backs off. She shoots, teleports Rodriguez to the fence, and pulls her back firmly into the mat. Rodriguez stuck to her butt, and her elbows landed for two minutes. and steadily work its way to the appropriate upper position. Two minutes to go.
Jandiroba works to create an arm triangle. Rodriguez waits for it and hits her body. One minute left. Jandiroba loses it and falls elbows inside. Rodriguez regains his guard and tries to punch her twice, then unleashes a storm of blows, which Jandiruba eats without worry. Rodriguez tries a final attack from her back. 10-9 Gandirupa.
The final result:
265 lbs.: Parker Porter vs. Braxton Smith
First round: Already loaded on the right hand, Smith shrugged off a level change. Smith truly Putting everything behind his punches. Good hooks for refusing to change the level of the fence. Nice counters from porter min at. Great exchange in the center. Smith lunges after him, giving off heat. Heavy blows to Porter. Upper extremity exercise, gentle knee. Smith changes levels and kind of flops to his knees, allowing Porter to get to the turtle and then the mountain. Porter stands and his Donkey Kong poses until the ref steps in.
The end result: Porter was defeated. Smith by TKO (punches)
185 lbs.: Phil Hawes vs. Ikram Aliskirov
Round 1: Start trading kicks and strikes. Powerful kicks by Hawes early on. Right kick and body per minute. Another rebound right catches Aliscroft’s throw. Aliskerov throws a lot of naked kicks and is constantly punished for it. Another body kick by Hawes. Aliskerov returns with a nice mix. The head kick seems to pick up a leaning Hawes and Aliskerov begins to turn up the heat, eventually finding the mark with a perfect right hand that disables Hawes on impact. Hawes slowly disintegrates to the mat and Aliskerov doesn’t bother to follow through, celebrating the knockdown before the referee calls it.
The final result: Aleskerov was defeated. Hawes by KO (punch)
185 lbs: Joseph Holmes vs. Claudio Ribeiro
First round: Quickie punches Holmes. Knee knee, low kick. Ribera wades behind him, falling short on punches. Saab 1-2 in the process of elimination by Holmes. Ribeiro pops up again and puts him on the fence. one minute inside. Holmes gets a double under and reverses. Search for flights. He changes levels, he can’t get anything for 2 minutes. The crowd became cranky. Announcers gush about how this is the most difficult part of MMA, so take a shot. They break up just over two minutes ago.
A hard low kick from Ribeiro knocks Holmes off his feet. Holmes fired a 1-2 and winged Ribeiro before hitting a double leg at half guard. Holmes makes his way to his feet, caught on his knees a minute ago. Ribeiro did a good job of keeping him down, working towards the mountain. Low mount against the fence, landing punches. The back takes the last 10 seconds and bombs away to the buzzer, but Holmes manages to survive. 10-9 Ribeiro.
Round Two: Ribeiro fights his way back into the clinch and moves Holmes to the fence. He competes for the position, reversing Holmes. one minute in. Ribeiro turns, separates, and returns to the center. Both low ground kicks. Check out the hook from Ribeiro. Two minutes later. Ribeiro appears to be loaded onto the counters while Holmes keeps his distance. Holmes continues to attack the leading leg. Ribeiro closes the distance with a hard combo and puts him on the fence, then taps him with a solid knee. Holmes eats two shots with two minutes left.
Ribeiro takes positions on a potential armbar, then stands on top of Holmes’ turtle and tosses it away to the finish line.
Final result: Ribeiro defeated. Holmes by TKO (punches)
