Aljamaine Sterling (22-3), who is defending his title for the third time, is looking to secure his ninth consecutive win. In his previous outing last October, the 33-year-old from Uniondale, New York defeated TJ Dillashaw via TKO in the second round, after notching up a pair of victories over former champion Petr Yan.
Flyweight and bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo (16-2) is back in action after a three-year layoff. In his last fight to date in May 2020, the 36-year-old Los Angeles native, who is also a 2008 Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrestling, stopped former champion Dominic Cruz in the second round.
In the co-main event, welterweight Bilal Muhammad and Gilbert Burns face off. No. 4 favorite Muhammad (22-3, 1 NC) of Chicago, Illinois was in contention in October 2022 when he stopped Shawn Brady in the second round. Number 5 contender Burns (22-5) from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last fought in April, when he scored a unanimous decision against Jorge Masvidal.
Also on the UFC 288 PPV card, she faces former women’s strawweight champion Jessica Andrade (24-10) of Brazil and Yan Xiaonan (16-3) of China. In addition, Movsar Ivloviev (16-0) faces Bryce Mitchell (15-2) from the United States in the featherweight division. At the start of the bout, Brazilian Crone Gracie (5-1) meets Charles Jordan (13-6-1) from Canada, also in featherweight.
The top of the UFC 288 raw card pits Drew Dawber (26-11) against Matt Frivola (10-3-1) in an American lightweight bout. Also on the card was Kennedy Nzechukwu (11-3) of Nigeria against Devin Clark (14-7) of the United States in the light heavyweight division.
Also, Khaos Williams (13-3) from the United States takes on Rolando Bedoya (14-1) from Peru at welterweight. Marina Rodriguez (16-2-2) goes up against Verna Jandiruba (18-3) in the all-Brazilian women’s strawweight showdown.
Early on at UFC 288, Braxton Smith (5-1) meets fellow American heavyweight Parker Porter (13-8). Phil Hawes (12-4) from the USA, Ikram Aliscroft (13-1), middleweight. Rafael Estefam (11-0) of Brazil and Zalgas Chomagulov (14-8) of Kazakhstan battle it out as flyweight.
In addition, American Joseph Holmes (8-3) from Brazil faces Claudio Ribeiro (10-3) in middleweight. The event begins with a bantamweight contest between Daniel Santos (9-2) of Brazil and Johnny Munoz (12-2) of the United States in the bantamweight division. The full lineup can be found below.
