MMA junkie On Thursday, Cortez (10-1) will return to the cage to take on fellow 125er Jasmine Jasudavicius (9-2) at UFC Fight Night 227. This will be Cortez’s first short trip to the Octagon since May 2022, where she made a unanimous decision on Melissa Gatto. Since making her professional debut in 2017, Cortez hasn’t lost. Victor of a 10-fight streak, including four in the UFC – one each year since joining the league in 2019 – Cortez has made it to the rankings thanks to four decisions that overpowered the likes of Gatto, Justin Kesh and Stefan Egger. Each of Cortez’s last six matches went to the scorecard.
While Cortez has won six straight decisions, Canadian Jasudavisius hasn’t seen a fight end before the final bell since 2020 – a seven-fight stint that encompassed her entire tenure in the UFC and beyond. As previously mentioned, Jasodavicius has stepped up the cage on three separate occasions since Cortez’s last fight, losing to Natalia Silva only to bounce back with a pair of victories over Gabriela Fernandez and Miranda Maverick.
UFC Fight Night 227 will take place in Las Vegas at T-Mobile Arena on September 16th. The main attraction will feature a high-stakes 125-pound championship rematch between Alexa Grasso and former champion Valentina Shevchenko. Other bouts that provide top billing include welterweight junk Shaukat Rachmanov and Kelvin Gastelum in the co-main event, as well as Chris Curtis vs. Anthony Hernandez in the middleweight and 115-pound affair with Lupita Godinez vs. Sam Hughes.
