Based on the reportsLooks like the Celtics are focusing on moving one of their guards.
According to a league source, the Celtics have been exploring deals that would reduce some of the crowding in their talented backcourt and boost their depth in the wing or senior positions.
Here we have discussed in detail the reasoning behind the transfer of Malcolm Brogdon or Payton Pritchard (or both). But these aren’t the only rangers on the list. I am very skeptical that the Celtics would consider transferring Derrick White considering he could be the Celtics’ third most important player in a deal. That leaves Marcus Smart.
As a lover of love and long-term love, I am against the thought of this with all my heart. Of course, my heart doesn’t always make the best decisions. So as a semi-responsible blogger, I feel it is necessary to explore the possibility of trading smart instead of Brogdon.
The original Boston Sports Guy suggested a trade on his podcast from Smart to the Dallas Mavs for Tim Hardaway Jr. and the 10th pick. This makes sense to some extent because Hardaway is more than a winger and the 10th pick could give the Celtics cost-controlled talent to build their bench with.
The only logic that makes sense to me is to sell a player a year early instead of a year late. Smart’s defense has slumped this season and it hasn’t been his best offensive season either. Is this a sign that his best years are behind him? Or was it one year?
The thing is, he can still play defense. I venture that he has forgotten about defense more than many NBA players know. If the Celtics want to recapture their defensive identity next season, having a guy like Smart manage them will be helpful.
So I leave this for you to discuss and discuss (be nice) in the comments. enjoy Lusty discussion.
