The Washington Capitals announced Tuesday afternoon that Forward Tom Wilson He was named the team’s nominee for the NHL’s King Clancy Memorial Trophy. The trophy is awarded annually to “the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution to his community.”
Arlington, Virginia – Washington Capitals Ft Tom Wilson The Capitals and the National Hockey League announced today that the club has been nominated for the 2022-23 King Clancy Memorial Trophy. Wilson is raising money for the So Kids Can community program through a related fundraiser launched today in honor of his candidacy.
The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to “the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution to his community.” Wilson gives back to the community through two player programs as well as by participating in additional initiatives throughout the season.
In conjunction with King Clancy’s nomination, fans donating to So Kids Can online at alltroo.com/wilson Entries will be entered between May 9th and June 27th to win two tickets to a mutually agreed upon future Capitals game, with a post-game meeting with Wilson. The experience includes an autographed jersey and game stick, as well as an airline ticket and hotel for two. All proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the 2022-23 So Kids Can benefactor Playtime Project. The Playtime Project develops the resilience of children experiencing family housing insecurity by providing and expanding access to transformative play experiences.
In 2018, Wilson set up 43 Friends to offer tickets, a special post-game play, and a tribute to kids waiting to have their wishes granted by the Make-A-Wish (MAW) Mid-Atlantic. In 2019, he expanded his program to also include families selected by the United Heroes League. Wilson chose MAW Mid-Atlantic after being inspired by a former player who donated tickets to MAW and chose the United Heroes League after meeting many wonderful men and women in the area who have or have previously served in the military. This season, while rehabbing for an injury, Wilson hosted three Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic kids and three United Heroes League kids on the suite for the Capitals vs. Coyotes game on November 5. Wilson spent quality time with the children and their families at the game pavilion.
