Tom Aspinall’s return from a horrific knee injury is set to take place at the same venue he sustained last year.
On Wednesday, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced that Aspinall (12-3, 5-1 UFC) will headline UFC on ESPN 49 on July 22 in London against Marcin Tybura. Aspinall was vocal about his intentions to return in July after a year on the sidelines when he called out Tybura during UFC 286 Fight Week in March. The Nevada-based promotion has granted its wish, offering to book Aspinall for the third main event, all done in his home country of the UK

Aspinall’s latest outing ended in misery, as he suffered a knee injury 15 seconds into his clash with Curtis Blades at UFC Fight Night 208 last July in London. Prior to this loss, his first under the UFC banner, the Cowpon representative was rapidly climbing the rankings as he put together an eight-bout winning streak, including his first five rounds in the octagon.
Tybura (24-7, 11-6 UFC) is arguably in the best moment of his career. The Polish fighter was 7-1 in his last appearance in the octagon, losing alone at the hands of Alexander Volkov at UFC 267 in October 2021. Among his many victims are “Tybur” defeated Ben Rothwell, Walt Harris and Alexander Romanov. Recently, Tybura outperformed Blagoy Ivanov on all scorecards at UFC Fight Night 218.
UFC airs on ESPN 49 at the O2 Arena in London, England, on July 22. The event will also feature the women’s bantamweight event between Ketlen Vieira and Pannie Kianzad, and the featherweight tilt involving Lerone Murphy and Joshua Culibao.
