It’s great to see Jordan swing his driver more freely again, with a better angle of attack. If you go back to his 2015 season, Spieth’s descent has been broad, shallow, and sequential. It’s no secret that things started going sideways (literally) around 2018, when his driving accuracy dropped by about 10 percent when it was hot. His driver’s swing was noticeably steeper, and Jordan himself spoke of how difficult it was to time his swing at impact.
GOLF Top 100 teacher Cameron McCormick had him work dropping the club into the hole and spinning hard at the ball. This not only resulted in more fairways, but also increased swing speed and resulting distance gains. One look at the photo to the left and you’ll see a golfer poised to fire a powerful – and accurate – tee shot.
Here are the keys to his ups and downs:
tilt
Jordan leans his hands away from his body with a noticeable extension coming from his left biceps all the way to the fist. This creates a longer swinging arc and more speed through the ball. Copy this!
Added speed
Watch the incredible torque at the top of Jordan’s torso. Fully rotated so that his back is facing the target. Check the ripples on his shirt: serious profile.
launch
Spieth’s hips are already spinning towards the target. This is the beginning of his landing sequence, and it should be yours, too. Pro tip: Work up the distance between your hands and left thigh as you transition and swing down for that extra pop.
