It is unbelievable to believe that the NHL currently has 32 North American franchises. There were only 21 teams in 1990. It has grown significantly in the past 30 years, and the popularity of hockey is increasing.
So much so that new leagues, such as the PHF, Senior Hockey Association, Women’s Hockey League, began to spring up.
Buffalo, Minnesota (Minneapolis), Connecticut (Hartford), Montreal, Toronto, and Boston are among the cities that already have clubs in the league. However, they hope to grow, and three cities are vying for a new professional hockey team.
One of these three cities could, according to the Puck Empire, get a new franchise. However, the League did not rule out other cities, and this issue may see a sudden resolution in the coming weeks.
PHF Chairman John Boynton has bigger plans for the league:
“There’s clearly more growth for us ahead. In three to five years, I could easily see 12 to 15 teams in the league, but we’re not quite there yet.”
Do you keep up with PHF activities?
