It looks like we will finally be witnessing the biggest fight in boxing that can be played now, as WBO welterweight champion Terrence Crawford (39-0) and WBC, WBA and IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr (28-0) have come to a contractual agreement.
ESPN Confirmed this reservation earlier this week.
This is a massive fight that took over five years in the making, and it couldn’t be more exciting that it’s finally going to happen, especially considering both men are still at the top of their division.
The Terence Crawford vs Errol Spence Jr match will take place live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 29, 2023.
There is a two-way clause in the contract, which means the loser of this encounter can activate the rematch clause within 30 days of the match occurring. The only catch, the rematch must take place before the end of 2023.
Three-division world champion, Terrence Crawford, former WBO & Ring Magazine Lightweight Champion, WBO, WBC, WBA, IBF, and Ring Magazine Light Welterweight Champion, and now WBO Welterweight Champion, a title he won again in 2018, A title he has defended six times since capturing it.
Then we have Errol Spence Jr., who won his first world championship in 2017, the IBF welterweight title. He defended that belt three times before also claiming the WBC welterweight title. Spence then defended both of those titles before winning the WBA Welterweight Championship in his last round in April last year.
As an amateur, Crawford went 58-12, winning the PAL National Championship in 2006, the Blue and Gold National Championship, also in 2006, and the U.S. Pan American Games in 2007. Crawford also won a silver medal when he competed for the Golden Gloves at 2006 and ranked third in the US National Championship in 2007.
On the other hand, Spence also lost 12 times as an amateur, although he had more than twice as many wins, finishing his tenure with a record of 135-12. Spence won the US National Championships three consecutive years in 2009, 2010, and 2011, won the US PAL National Championship in 2010, and also competed for the Gold Gloves twice, winning the gold medal in 2009, and finishing runner-up in 2010.
Of Crawford’s 39 professional victories, 30 have come by knockout including his last 10 in a row, while of Spence’s 28 professional victories, 22 have come by knockout including seven of his last 10.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was browsing channels and landed on Versus, which is where WEC was on TV. Uriah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. This is the first fight I’ve ever seen, and I got addicted to it instantly. Eventually, I started covering the sport in the last quarter of 2018, and since then I’ve started writing about animals as well.
