A new PGA Tour event is headed to a place golfers know well: Myrtle Beach, SC
The tour announced Wednesday that the Myrtle Beach Classic, sponsored by Visit Myrtle Beach, will debut in 2024 at Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
The tournament will, under a four-year agreement, be a versus field event played during the same week as one of the tour’s set events. 2024 dates haven’t been released yet, but the purse will be $3.9 million.
“We are excited to announce the launch of the Myrtle Beach Classic, an exciting new gaming opportunity for our members in one of our country’s most iconic destinations,” said Tyler Dennis, President of the PGA Tour. “With its incredible passion for golf, the Myrtle Beach community is a natural fit to bring this tournament to life. We look forward to partnering with Visit Myrtle Beach for a first class tournament at the tournament venue at Dunes Golf and Beach Club.”
The Dunes Club was designed by Robert Trent Jones and was the host of the outgoing PGA Tour Champions Charles Schwab Cup from 1994 to 1999. North Carolina is, however, the third best overall choice.
The Myrtle Beach Classic will be one of the tour’s two stops in South Carolina in 2024, joining RBC Heritage on Hilton Head Island, which has long been played a week after the Masters in April.
