The LIV Golf League’s Final Team Championship will be held at Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami for the second year in a row.
LIV Golf League officials announced Monday that the $50 million team tournament will be held October 20-22 at Trump National Doral, owned by former US President Donald Trump.
The three-day team tournament was originally scheduled to take place from November 3-5 at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. LIV Golf League officials are working to bring it back to the Trump National Doral, where it was staged for the league’s inaugural season in 2022. The Jeddah event, now scheduled for October 13-15, will be the last regular season tournament.
“We are excited to return to the Blue Monster in Doral to celebrate a historic year and be crowned the 2023 LIV Golf League Team Champions,” LIV Golf CEO and Commissioner Greg Norman said in a statement Monday. “The team concept has come to life this year in exciting new ways as our players and fans embrace the launch of the golf team. We are building for an action-packed weekend with key entertainment that will put an exclamation mark on another can t-miss LIV Golf event. “
The player who finished first in the points race for the season after the Jeddah event will be crowned champion of the individual tournament. The ranking of the teams after the Jeddah Championship will determine the classification for the Teams Championship. The top four teams receive a bye into the first round.
The three-day team tournament combines match play and strike play to determine the team’s overall winner. Last season, Dustin Johnson’s 4 Aces GC won the inaugural team championship. Johnson was also crowned individual champion.
Through nine events this season, the 4 Aces hold the top spot in the team standings with 168 points, followed by Joaquin Niemann’s Torque GC (129) and Bubba Watson’s RangeGoats GC (127).
Tallor Gooch, a three-time winner this season, leads the individual points standings with 137. Cameron Smith is second with 130, and Brooks Koepka is third with 112.
The LIV Golf League’s next event is scheduled to take place August 4-6 at The Greenbrier in White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia.
