The Maple Leafs made several mistakes in their opening game against Tampa Bay. This is no excuse, but the referees didn’t give them much chance.
The screws scored a controversial goal during the penalty kick scored by Michael Ponting in the 5th minute after his violent strike on Eric Cernak.
When the officials analyzed the procedure, they discovered that there was no camera viewpoint that truly showed the kicker crossing the line. However, the goal was permissible.
A new camera angle has been released, allowing us to watch the puck pass through the line.
After so many “coincidences,” it’s only natural for fans to question the competence of NHL refereeing, but in this case, it appears the league made the right decision.
