Dan Hooker thinks the “BMF” belt is doing a disservice to Dustin Poirier vs. Justin Gaethje.
Poirier (29-7 MMA, 21-6 UFC) and Gaethje (24-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) will battle it out for the vacant “BMF” title on July 29 at the UFC 291 main event, which takes place at the Delta Center in Salt Lake. City is broadcast on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.
Poirier and Gaethje are the fiercest fighters, but Hooker doesn’t see the value of the “BMF” title.
“That’s why it’s kind of ridiculous fighting, do you know what I mean?” Hooker said Israel Adesanya YouTube channel. “We are warriors at the end of the day. Nah. What does that actually mean?”
Hooker says he would fight for the “BMF” title if given the chance, simply because of the financial perks that come with it.
“Of course I would accept it because there is money that comes with it, and that’s the main goal of doing it,” Hooker said. “But having a BMF title and hanging it on my wall and being proud of it is not the same as a world title. Maybe I put it under the bed or something.”
Hooker, who meets Jalen Turner at UFC 290 on July 8, has fought Poirier before in 2020. He survived a memorable fight of the night that snapped his three-win streak.
“Dustin is just a fun guy to fight,” Hooker said. “He makes it so much fun and it draws you into this game. I can watch the Gaethje fight and it’s exactly the same. He’s just a fun guy to fight, a fun guy to do battle with, and it’s weird. He’s just a fun guy to fight and you get distracted from it all and just immerse yourself in the fight.” .It’s just fun.”
