Tony Finau wants to set the record straight. He wasn’t playing golf with his kids Just After his $1.386 million Sunday night paycheck – he did it all week.
Finau won the Mexico Open in Vedanta on Sunday, defeating John Rahm by triple to win the sixth tournament of his PGA Tour career and fourth in the past 10 months. It was a nice win for Finau, but he received just as much attention for a viral video that circulated on Twitter afterwards.
Finau looked like he was holding two of his three sons, Jraice and Sage, on the resort’s Par-3 course.
Finau, who is now back in the US and playing the Wells Fargo tournament this week, was asked about this video Tuesday at the Quail Hollow Club. He said he was actually playing with them on Sunday night, not just carrying cans. He said they’d been there every night for the past week — either with two of his kids or just Grace — so Sunday was just a continuation of their week-long extravaganza.
“My youngest son, Saj, is starting to get into it,” said Finau. during the [Masters] In this year’s Par-3 competition, I’ve got him hitting a jab. He doesn’t like golf at all, he just likes to be with dad. I got him to hit him from 12 feet after I hit a shot there and he ended up making the putt. Everyone went crazy, and that kind of changed his whole personality about golf — he wanted to hit the next putt and the next putt. Since then he’s been asking me to play golf, so I took him out a few times last week.”
Let’s make one thing clear: Finau isn’t looking for a medal or even publicity. In fact, he was doing what his father did for him and what he enjoys doing with his children.
“It was great to end a wonderful week with my kids and be at the golf course. I fell in love with the evening golf game with my dad and brother and it brings back unforgettable memories,” said Venau. “I hope my kids will enjoy it as much as I did when I was a kid, Only with my father and brother. It’s just special to be with them no matter what. If I had finished second, I would still have been with them. My children depended on me and that is something I am proud of as a father.
“Look at myself, I’m a part-time golfer, full-time dad,” he continued. “That’s kind of my thing. My kids have only been young once and my boys have only been young once, and I want to make sure I’m there for them as much as possible. That’s also why I have them travel with me. It’s really nice that we’re able to share those The special moment on the golf course after winning the tournament, but then shooting straight to par 3 and then spending that time with them was so much fun.”
But no, he doesn’t take them lightly.
He said, “Man, I cleaned the house last week.” “I beat my son fortunately all week in round 3 and then managed to win the title at the Mexico Open. It was a good week of golf for me.”
