If you’ve ever struggled with drop kicking—the act of hitting the ground before the ball, then bouncing the clubface into the ball instead of hitting it cleanly—you know it’s among golf’s most frustrating ailments. But how do you fix it?
I asked Coach Stephanie Shaw, the teaching professional at Ocean Reef Golf Club in Key Largo, Florida, for her advice.
“Many players, especially women, tend not to swing fast enough,” she said. “And if your swing slows down the closer you get to the ball, you have a better chance of hitting the ground first.”
Fortunately, there is a solution. Are you ready to rid yourself of those kicks? Try these two quick fixes.
Put the ball farther into your position
Putting the ball farther into your position, Shaw said, will reduce your chances of hitting the ground before the ball.
Throw the ball up
Pointing the ball up can help you force yourself to swing a little more at the ball, avoiding the dreaded drop kick.
Try these simple tips, and say goodbye to those flabby kicks for good.
