Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson was undeniably impressed by the size of Conor McGregor during his brief appearance on TUF’s latest season.
Thompson had the chance to get up close and personal with the Irishman during his guest appearance on The Ultimate Fighter earlier this year. Thompson worked alongside McGregor during his brief stint on the long-running reality series, helping the former champion develop his team of up-and-coming UFC hopefuls. Before leaving the group, Thompson took a picture with McGregor that made MMA fans go crazy because the Irish lightweight looked so much older than Wonderboy who regularly competes at welterweight.
During his recent appearance on collapseThompson revealed that the photo is a bit deceiving but still admires McGregor’s size.
I put it out there in the best possible way [for a McGregor fight]Thompson said. Conor McGregor, big for his weight, sure…is he a normal 170? no…
“We took a picture together, and I noticed he was slowly getting on. I was like, ‘Damn, he’s huge!’ … I don’t care if you’re a lawyer or what. If you get into the gym, it’s your size.”(h/t MMA news).
What’s next for Conor McGregor and ‘Wonderboy’ after working together on TUF?
Conor McGregor never set foot inside octagon Since his disastrous triple threat bout in July 2021 with lightweight rival Dustin Poirier. McGregor suffered a broken leg near the end of the opening round, an injury from which he has not yet returned. Currently, McGregor can be seen training for The Ultimate Fighter opposite fellow lightweight favorite “Iron” Michael Chandler. Two high-octane scrapers were due to drop in later this year in McGregor’s highly anticipated comeback, but as time goes on, it seems less and less likely that the Irishman will don the four-ounce glove any time soon.
“Wonderboy” himself is set to return to the Octagon on July 29 when the promotion returns to Salt Lake City for UFC 291. Thomspon will be joining in the festivities as he takes on the always entertaining Michelle Pereira. Thompson will be aiming to make the two in a row after scoring a fourth-round TKO against Kevin Holland in December.
