Game summary
Withstand the storm. That’s what the Rangers needed to do in the first period, as the Devils came out flying, even jumping out to a 1-0 lead on a Powerplay goal. Then the adjustments took their course, and the Rangers exploded for five in a row to bury the Devils for the second time in Newark this series. Two powerful goals from Chris Kreider, topped up by goals from trade-deadline possessions Vladimir Tarasenko and Patrick Kane, who had a great game, put Rangers back at MSG at a 2-0 lead.
Showtime is already in the bog, as Kane followed up his relatively modest Game 1 effort (he still had 2 assists) with another pair of base passes and a great goal to shut it down. Kreider again got both goals from in front of the net on the Powerplay. Both, again, were very powerful goalscorers, cementing his position as the most brilliant goalkeeper of all time.
Before the playoffs even started, we knew the Rangers’ superstars would need to produce.
they.
Before the playoffs started, we knew the Rangers would be in it if they had special teams and Igor Shesterkin was himself.
they. he.
Before the playoffs started, we knew that if the Rangers could get both Igor and special teams, but also control playing 5v5, they wouldn’t be stopped.
So far, so good. It’s time to eat.
Devils 1, Rangers 0
The Rangers couldn’t force away twice, and that usually leads to bad things, including a deflected shot that Shesterkin couldn’t get all the way through, and Erik Haula poked the ball into the net.
Rangers 1, Devils 1
The Rangers had a great turnaround, holding territory and winning puck fights. In the end, Adam Fox drew a defender to him before Vladimir Tarasenko flew from the top of the circle into the hole, took a puck, and launched a defender through Vincent Troshek’s screen.
Rangers 2, Devils 1
Chris Kreider is up front in the powerplay. This is three in two games. Great vision from Patrick Kane, knowing Kreider was up front, put him in a spot where he could get the swerve.
Rangers 3, Devils 1
crider. from Kane. on powerplay. once again.
Rangers 4, Devils 1
The Devils pushed hard, leaving them vulnerable once the puck was out of Rangers territory. Patrick Kane did it all here.
Rangers 5, Devils 1
Capo Kaku played himself a match, and was rewarded by reaching the net and roofing on Philippe Chitel’s pass. Powerfully possessed by the Demons, the Rangers won puck fights and this was no different.
