Sean O’Malley disagrees with Khamzat Chimaev’s latest assessment of Colby Covington’s shot at the promised UFC title, but Sugar is afraid to tell the Chechen fighter how he really feels.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Covington would have his next shot at UFC Middleweight Champion Leon Edwards. The title fight is not official, but it is expected to happen later this year. Covington is basically jumping ahead of other worthy competitors like Khamzat, Bilal Muhammad and even Shavkat Rakhmonov.
As expected, Covington’s guaranteed title shot didn’t sit well with the rest of the division or the mixed martial arts (MMA) community for that matter. Chimaev, who is 6-0 in UFC competition, is one of the fighters who doesn’t understand Covington’s current situation. In fact, “Borz” thinks the UFC is giving Covington the next shot because he’s American.
“It is them and they are [UFC] He gave him this opportunity because he is probably from the USA,” Chimaev said recently YouTube channel. “They want him to belt.”
That’s a bit of a stretch even for the outspoken Chimaev, but it’s really hard to see why Covington got his next shot. Perhaps this is due to his ability to talk trash and sell fights, but other fighters like Chimaev believe there is an underlying motive.
This is where O’Malley comes in. The rookie UFC heavyweight contender is on the cusp of his own title at UFC 292 in August, and he thinks Khamzat is full of it. O’Malley is too afraid to come out and say it.
Wow. O’Malley joked lately YouTube video. “Personally, I feel offended as an American. Khamzat, you’re lucky, she’s close. Jokes and jokes don’t kill me, King.”
What do you think, crazy people? Is Chimaev’s claim about the Covington surname true, or is it all nonsense?
Let’s listen to this!
