The Scotty Scheffler situation had been a hot topic for weeks, and it all came to a head at Memorial as he combined one of his best ball hitting performances with his worst to finish a solo third.
Now in the days leading up to the first round of the US Open at Los Angeles Country Club, it looks like Scotty will have a potential makeover on the horizon after he was spotted on the green with a new racquet in hand.
The putter in question is the Scotty Titleist (with a “Y”) Cameron Newport 2 Plus, which offers a similar shape to its current Newport 2 but with a wider flange (the back) designed to offer better alignment and a higher MOI of tolerance.

Although no details were available from Scheffler, we had a chance to speak with the team at Tellist behind the racquet and found out that Scotty had a new racquet in his possession a couple of weeks ago and had been working with him at home. The main aim of the potential change is to help introduce a new look and feel on the greens, and with that, he has also been seen working with different weights on the sole of the putter.
As of now, it looks like the new putter will be in the bag on Thursday when he starts playing in the LACC since he didn’t have another putter in his bag during the practice session, but if he returns to his previous putter, we will be. on hand to cover it.
