The current Spur forward and former Raptors forward is currently on the outside, and he has his chosen words for how the Raptors will handle DeMar DeRozan this offseason. In an interview with Hartford Courant, Jay takes a shot at Toronto, praising San Antonio at the same time.
“The best part about San Antonio, they do it right,” said Jay. “They do it right by their players, and they do it right by their staff. It doesn’t happen very often in the NBA, to be honest with you. It doesn’t happen very often.”
On the one hand, there was [Leonard] Which was trying to get out, get into a bigger market, and they were totally on it, and then they traded it in for a guy [DeRozan] Where that organization wasn’t at all on top of him,” Jay added. “So I mean, it’s just day and night. This trade shows you the difference there is between Tottenham and other organisations.”
The irony is not lost on Jay’s words and how the trade went down. It appears that Leonard wanted out of San Antonio due to the mistrust and miscommunication between the two parties. While DeRozan was surprised and disappointed in Toronto after enjoying his time there.
Jay played two seasons in Toronto, averaging 19.5 points per game over those campaigns in 2013 and 2012.
