Finally, Ricky Glenn is healthy again and ready to be active.
Glenn returned in June 2021 having not fought since 2018 and knocked out Joaquim Silva in 37 seconds. He then took off with Grant Dawson in October and fought him to a draw after Dawson nearly finished in the final round. He was then booked to face Drew Dawber in March, but just two weeks before the fight, he tore a groin tendon that kept him out for over a year.
“It’s been six months since the injury and I got injured about two weeks before the match with Dupper,” Glenn told Just Scrap radio on BJPENN.com. “I tore a tendon that was completely attached to my groin during training. I think it was such a nagging injury that I didn’t realize it was a tendon that partially ruptured and then snapped in training.”
Once healthy, Glenn wasn’t sure who he’d be next but he’s excited to take on Christos Giagos at UFC Vegas 71. Glenn knows Giagos will bring it up and be a fierce fighter, especially since he loses two in a row.
“Sure, I have a lot of pressure on myself after losing one fight,” Glenn explained. “They can cut us down anytime they want, not only do we have to be exciting but not lose multiple fights. I imagine he’s hungry and fighting for his job so I have to be sharp off the bat and come out strong.”
Although Ricky Glenn expects Christos Giagos to be aggressive at UFC Vegas 71, the 34-year-old actually thinks it benefits him. Glenn knows he’s a great counter striker and thinks he can catch Giagos with something big early and get a KO victory.
However, if Giagos tries to wrestle and confront him, Glenn believes he can also knock him to the ground.
“The first thing that goes through my head are bad scenarios like he hooks me with a right hand raise, he takes me down and I have to work off my back and come back from that. But I don’t intend for that to happen,” Glenn said. “I think if he comes to me as hard as he does in all his other fights, I will finish him off from the beating. If he wants to wrestle, I’ll knock him to the ground.”
If Glenn gets a temporary win over Giagos at UFC Vegas 71, he’ll be hoping to make a quick turnaround against a top 15 opponent.
“I think it brings me back out there to fight top 15 man. I’m not overtaking Christos but I’m winning, I’m back out there fighting the top 15 people,” Glenn concluded.
Do you think Ricky Glenn will finish Christos Giagos?
