He served on the St. Louis Blues from 2006-2016, the Columbus Blue Jackets from 2016-21, the Vancouver Canucks during the 2021-22 campaign, and the Philadelphia Flyers last season. He has been on Coach John Tortorella’s coaching staff since 2016 and served on the Vancouver team when Tortorella was out of coaching for a year.
Washington parted ways with head coach Peter Laviolette on April 14 after a 35-37-10 (. 488 percentage point) finish 12 points out of a post-season spot in the Eastern Conference. It was the first time in nine seasons that Washington failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup.
The team also reportedly interviewed Tampa Bay Lightning assistant Jeff Halpern and Toronto Maple Leafs assistant Spencer Carberry in the opening game.
General Manager Brian McClellan stated after the season that he was looking for a head coach who would give the youth a chance and fit the team’s veteran core.
