Ravel Thomas Edwards signed a deal to return to it Bristol Flyers ahead of the 2023/24 season.
The British striker will return to WISE Campus after a full year as assistant coach for German women’s team TK Hannover of the Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga (DBBL). The Lynx won the DBBL Cup and were runners-up in the playoffs last season.
Thomas-Edwards first joined the Flyers in 2019, after a breakout year with the Leicester Warriors of NBL Division One. He earned a spot on the NBL Division One Team of the Year after averaging 23 points and 14.5 rebounds per game.
During his three years with the Flyers, he averaged 8.9 points and 5 rebounds per game.
Speaking on his return to the club, Thomas Edwards said:
“It feels like the right move. There is so much to get done at Bristol that I don’t want to miss the boat. Last year’s group did a great job of raising the bar even higher than before so now is the time to get back at it and build again.
“I’m excited to see friends I haven’t seen in a year and of course to come back and play with my friend Coach Capolas. I’ve been away, I learned a lot and now it’s time to go home.”
Thomas Edwards returns to the Flyers as the club’s 10th all-time scorer (537 points), as well as sixth on the club’s all-time rebounding list at British Basketball League ERA (304 rebounds).
Flyers coach Andreas Capoulas said:
“Raf’s return is great for us. He’s a tenacious player on the field who will do whatever the team needs to do to win. He had his best season in this league a year before his vacation and now he’s driven to do even better.
“Training in Germany last season helped him gain valuable experience to see the game from a different perspective as well as rest his body. His knowledge and experience in the league as well as his attitude, work ethic and versatility will greatly help our team.”
