Sweden’s assistant captain Stefan Klocker said Thursday morning that Washington Capitals defender Rasmus Sanden will miss the 2023 IIHF World Championship quarter-final match against Lafia on Thursday night. Sweden held morning skiing at 10.45 on Thursdays and Sandin did not participate.
Sandin suffered what appeared to be a serious knee injury in the first period of Team Sweden’s 2023 IIHF World Championship preliminary match against Team USA on Tuesday.

The injury looked like it could be major, but word came from Team Sweden on Wednesday morning that Sandin is currently listed as “day-to-day with a lower-body injury,” and will likely return to play in the tournament.
Sandin started practicing with the team on Wednesday but didn’t finish, leaving the ice in the middle of practice. It is still listed as “day by day”.
Sandin started all matches in the best pairing for the Sweden team. He entered Tuesday’s game with one assist in six games played at the World Cup.
Team Sweden will take on Team Latvia in the first elimination game Thursday at 12:20 PM ET.
