Irresponsible rumors
Per Arthur StapleThe Rangers have two new names in their head coach search. According to Staple, the Rangers have already interviewed Leafs assistant Spencer Carbery, and have received permission to interview Kraken assistant Jay Leach. Leach tops many people’s list, but it is unknown how high he is on Drury’s list. Carbery is a new name added to the mix.
Carbery is not likely to land with the Rangers, as Staple has indicated he is likely to head to Anaheim or Washington. Carbery has a lot of experience in the ECHL and AHL, but he hasn’t won at any level.
Leach is in high demand, and if Drury takes the smaller/unproven route he’s a good candidate. Leach, who played NHL games in the early days of this location (scary), was the head coach with the Providence Bruins for 4 years, producing 4 winning seasons. He has been with Seattle since their first season as an assistant.
It should be noted that Mike Babcock is not on the Rangers’ radar anymore.
