An immediate rematch with Valentina Shevchenko appears to be next for newly crowned flyweight champion Alexa Grasso.
Dana White pointed this out during UFC Fight Night 223’s post-fight press conference on Saturday. However, he did not disclose a possible date or event for the match. “We’re working on that, too,” White said of the rematch. “This is one of the battles we’re definitely working on right now.”
Grasso pulled off one of the biggest upsets of 2023 when she delivered Shevchenko with a fourth-round facial in the UFC 285 co-main event on March 4. The best fighters in the world.
The 29-year-old Grasso has won five straight fights since moving up to the 125-pound strawweight division. Had the UFC been chosen to avoid an immediate rematch, Grasso had a number of interesting options for her first title defense including Erin Blanchfield, Manon Fiorot, and Taila Santos.
