The Winnipeg Jets offseason is expected to be a very active one. Several key talents of the team are said to be moving on after a really bad season. Mark Shevell, one of the Jets’ offensive pivots, is one such talent, and the Carolina Hurricanes could be one club to pounce on.
PuckEmpire of Instagram reports that if Scheifele enters the commercial market, the Hurricanes may be interested in acquiring him, citing Sportsnet as a source.
Canes will benefit from the move as Scheifele provides them with a solid second-line position to play behind Sebastian Aho and will add to an already impressive list of attacking finesse. The Hurricanes need to make a huge off-season move to climb over that hump after being swept in the Eastern Conference Finals again.
Scott Bellick of the Winnipeg Sun recently speculated about a potential Scheifele-Canes deal whereby Martin Necas, Brett Pesce or Seth Jarvis, a Winnipeg native, would be acquired in exchange. If the Jets are entering a rebuild phase, it might make sense to take on Scheifele for young assets; Either way, Winnipeg fans can expect a slam dunk.
