After the launch of the G430 Max and SFT Fairway Woods, many golfers wondered when and if an LST (Low Spin Technology) version would come along to complement the LST driver. Now that details are asked, Ping is set to release a multi-material titanium fairway wood that’s packed with technology to help golfers gain more distance.
technology
Much like the G430 LST driver and G430 Max fairway woods, the LST uses a carbon fly casing to lower the center of gravity and push it closer to the face to provide greater ball velocity and lower spin, resulting in higher flight and longer carry shots. An eight-layer carbon crown displaces enough titanium from the head to provide a net total of 5.5 grams, which may not sound like a huge amount but makes all the difference when it comes to getting that last ounce of performance.
Speaking of mass, the G430 LST’s body is made from a strong, lightweight Ti 8-1-1 body with a stronger 2041 Beta-Ti face. The use of titanium over steel provides enough mass from around the 169-cc head that engineers can place an 80-gram tungsten plate on the sole to increase ball speeds and reduce spin, resulting in an average distance of an additional seven yards.
John K. said Solheim, CEO and President of Ping, in a statement: “The lightweight properties of titanium and the density of tungsten open up a lot of possibilities for performance improvement.” “The results are exceptional. It is already in the bags of tour players around the world. We look forward to getting our new fairway wood into the hands of golfers who want the best in multi-material technology.”
Another continuation from the rest of the Ping G430 line is a variable roll radius (Spinsistency) on the bottom of the face to reward subtle shots by reducing overall spin for more carry. This works by helping to put shots low on the face to generate less spin compared to traditionally designed faces which tend to generate excessive spin when hit below the center of gravity – a common mistake for most golfers.
Last but not least, the combination of titanium materials allowed Ping engineers to push connecting welds away from the face, creating the potential for smoother, faster, and more consistent ball speeds around the entire face, resulting in greater tolerance.
With all this technology packed into one head, it’s easily Ping’s most technologically advanced fairway wood yet – something that will give golfers looking for low-spin fairway wood a huge advantage.
