Former UFC fighter Phyllis Herrig is returning to competition after announcing her retirement from professional mixed martial arts following her loss to Karolina Kowalkiewicz in June 2022.
“Lil’ Bulldog” Herrig, 38, will compete in her first boxing match on July 22 when she takes on Veronica Dmitrieva. The fight will be the co-main event of the “It’s Not Me” international boxing card at Riverside Hall in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
“Finally making my long awaited boxing debut,” Herrig’s social media post read. “Although I’m ready to fight for @gamebredboxingpromotions too, I wanted to fight sooner and continue to gain as much experience as possible. *especially after being out for so long with my knee injury*
I am grateful to my coach Shannon for setting this up, for Skyler for making it happen and for my opponent for accepting it.
“I’m going to take it back to the old school where it all began. Small local shows getting my feet wet. Trying to climb the boxing ranks.
This fight will not be televised, so if you want to get in on the action, you better watch me live. *All details are in the poster*
My boxing club has all my tickets. Please contact them…. Unless you are in my contacts. the. You can message me directly.”
Shortly after Herig retired from MMA after her fourth straight loss, it was announced that she would be taking the gloves off and feuding for the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, but that match has yet to happen.
Herrig left MMA with a professional record of 14-10. She was part of Season 20 of Ultimate Fighter which first introduced female strawweights to the UFC. Prior to that, Herrig was an accomplished kickboxer and Muay Thai practitioner who also fought in the Invicta Fighting Championships.
