This past weekend, a horrific mass shooting in the Allen, Texas, shopping center devastated the entire state of Texas. Unsurprisingly, the tragedy had a huge impact on the hockey club that considers Texas its home. It is believed that the killer’s horrific actions resulted in the death of 8 innocent people and the injury of 7 others.
Not only were the Dallas Stars in Texas, but Sunday Stars coach Peter DeBoer revealed just how close this particular tragedy to the Stars was from home.
“That mall…the family was there, the family stores there, the players go there.”
“Honestly when you hear about victims as young as 5 years old, you get tired of hearing it,” DeBoer said.

DeBoer also showed his sympathy for the Allen Americans, the ECHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators based in Allen, Texas, in an impressive display of class. The fact that the Americans are playing “only 5 minutes away” from the site of the tragedy, DeBoer said, added to how personally the incident affected the Stars’ coach.
It’s not hard to understand why DeBoer was upset about the incident given that his family had visited this place previously.
