If there’s one player you know for sure you don’t want to mess with in the paint, it’s Grizzlies center Steven Adams. The New Zealander has a reputation not only for being one of the best defensive players in recent years, but also for being a strong bull.
Back when he started in the NBA with the Thunder, he teamed up with Paul George and became one of the strongest duos of the 2010s decade. The current Clippers star went on his “Podcast P” and recalled many interesting anecdotes during their spell together in Oklahoma.
His ex kicked off the segment by calling Steve “one of the best people in the world,” right before sharing some crazy stories when they shared the basketball court.
On one occasion Thunder needed to pause the game but had no timeouts left. This did not stop Adams from finding a ruse to stop the play, and he began scratching his face until it began to bleed. In this way, the officials will have to stop the match for a medical examination.
“We were playing late in the game,” George recalls. “We needed a time-out but we didn’t have any time-outs.”
“So I look at Steve doing this – he scratches his face so hard like a f*ck. I’m like ‘Steve, what are you doing?’” Base said as everyone exploded in amazement.
George then added, “I respect that,” just as guest Jaren Jackson, Jr. also shared more stories about Adam’s strength, since he’s currently his teammate in Memphis.
“The man is a warrior,” the Clippers player insisted. “He’ll take a beating and he’ll be like ‘Oh, that’s good’… He’s one of his best mates.”
JJJ imitated Steve in that particular instance. “I just sprained my ankle a little bit,” he joked. “I just broke my leg, it’s okay.” “
Take a look at the latest episode of the “Podcast with P,” where George also talks with Jackson Jr. about star guard and reality in Memphis after Morant’s recent controversy:
To end the segment about Adams, George gives him the final praise. “He has become one of my favorite teammates,” he confirmed. “Just a great human being.”
Yaren Jackson Jr. compared his training routine to Adam, saying that his teammate does everything on his own
Not even the 2022/23 defensive player can compare his workout routines to the New Zealand athlete.
When the Memphis star was asked to share an anecdote about Adams, he stunned everyone by saying that he does all of his workouts himself.
“You know how everyone has their own trainers and programs? This guy works himself out, trains himself, rehabilitates himself, elevates himself,” said JJJ. “People just watch him lift. People help me but I see people looking at him like he’s in a zoo.”
Earlier this year, George went on to say that he didn’t remember Adams lifting weights, which makes you wonder how this guy is so huge!
