Oscar De La Hoya explained why he didn’t show up for the Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia post-fight conference.
De La Hoya is Garcia’s longtime promoter and has been vocal about how much he trusts ‘King Ry’ to get a KO against Davis and become boxing’s biggest star. Unfortunately for him, Davis would win by a seventh-round TKO. Then, after the event, it was not De La Hoya by Garcia in the post-match press conference, but Golden Boy boss Eric Gomez.
Immediately, many fans questioned why Oscar De La Hoya wasn’t with Ryan Garcia after his loss, and the former professional boxer claimed it was because he received death threats, so his security team escorted him out of the building.
“For me… … my security team said to me – ‘Chief, we have to get out of here’ – because I got death threats. You guys don’t know this, I got death threats all week and [my security team] We just said it was simply too dangerous, so we got out of there. Plus, Eric Gomez, the boss, who was there front and center with Ryan Garcia, so there was no problem, no problems,” said De La Hoya (h/t boxing).
“this [talk about me and Hopkins] They’re all coming from all the PBC henchmen just attacking Ryan and attacking Golden Boy, but it’s all good. Ryan Garcia made this [fight] Happened, Tank made this [fight] It is happening. We’ve had a great fight. Best man won. My hat to you. Tank Davis, you are a great fighter. Ryan Garcia, I’ve got your back, and Bernard has your back. We’re 1000% with you and you’ll come back better than ever, stronger than ever – guaranteed,” De La Hoya continued.
Even though Oscar De La Hoya wasn’t with Ryan Garcia at the post-fight press conference, he says he’s still 100% behind him. He is confident Garcia will come back better than ever as ‘King Ry’ plans to move up to 140lbs after cutting it down to 136lbs to face Davis.
What do you think was Oscar De La Hoya’s reason for not being with Ryan Garcia in the post-fight press conference?
