“Can I just address one thing in regards to Tyler Myers because it sounded like Patrick Alvin tried to respond, or was asked about something I had set up there the last week or two with you guys about Tyler Myers.
And it was a weird kind of comment and attitude. And I think to shed more light on it, I understood that the deal that was on the table was Tyler Myers direct for Kevin LaBanque. Another man the sharks were trying to move.
And the thought process was, the Canucks, they both owe cash about the same amount of money. And with Labanc, the Canucks could add to their front set. Get a player who was kind of in the 20 goal range before and see if you can renew him and finish the season strong. Meanwhile, since there’s a difference between cash and cap, save, and find a way to shave $1.3 million off your cap.
So that’s been the thought process for both teams and in return the Sharks get a guy they feel might be a real flip-flop asset on Deadline. But my understanding is that the Canucks were absolutely mad that this was on the table and they sat there for so long.
So the reason why Patrick Alvin answered the way he did is because if there were things on the table, why wasn’t it done? This is a question that sharks, not sharks, should answer.
And it’s not for nothing, the funny part about it at the end is that he said something like, if I’m just paraphrasing, Tyler Myers is part of our team or whatever, and it was like, from the moment he signed that contract it seemed like the Canucks were trying Transfer Tyler Myers.
So, I really don’t know how to explain the rest of it.”
Host: “Um, he said, the quote. After he said ‘why not make the deal if it’s on the table,’ he said, ‘We talked about options for improving the team but when I was standing up to you guys here last week, I kind of made it clear that Tyler Myers was a part. of the team moving forward.
So he didn’t leave it at that because there weren’t any discussions going on about Tyler Myers.”
Serravalle: “Okay. I just felt like I needed to respond because I was responsible for it. I just wanted to add more clarity that this was a thought process.”
