Penguins cost to pull Eric Carlson Trade may be too much
Dan Rosen from NHL.com: (Mailbag) You don’t see Erik Carlson ending up with the Pittsburgh Penguins. There are many factors that you have to factor in to make the money work for them. Penguins have already been crowned.
The Penguins could get some salary to relocate, but why would the rebuilding Sharks want to hold those salaries for a few more years. Sharks want good assets in return and penguins don’t really have them.
The Penguins could be looking to get a third team involved, and it might be someone to take on Jeff PetrieTwo cents for $6.25 million, but the Penguins will need a domestic attachment.
Yes, it is possible, but all the extra assets and work involved in doing it, they probably won’t.
The Penguins now have a second takeover window option
Rob Rossi from The Athletic: with Drew O’Connor Introduced to salary arbitration, he opened up a second purchase window for the Pittsburgh Penguins and could play an important role in their ability to shell out some salary to be able to acquire San Jose Sharks fullback Erik Carlson.
He doesn’t know exactly how long the Sharks will be willing to keep Carlson’s $11.5 million cap. Penguins have little room for cover.
Michael Granlund Jeff Petrie would be two candidates to buy it. Buying Petry would save them $3.25 million, then $1.75 million, and an additional maximum of $1.25 million in years three and four. The Granlund purchase would save them $4,166,667 and then $3,166,667 followed by two years of $1,833,333.
Dubas is still intrigued by the addition of Carlson and another team will need to get involved
Josh Yohei from The Athletic: If the Pittsburgh Penguins can get Erik Karlsson, the Penguins will have to transfer Jeff Petry’s contract somehow. Karlsson will improve its power performance and will provide some much needed electricity. Carlson’s dynamic play will help bring people into the arena, and fill some of those empty seats.
His ways of acquiring him is that he is 33 years old and not very good at defending. Well, he will be almost three years younger than Petrie, who will replace him. Pair it with a defensive lineman like Defensive Marcus Peterson or Adam Graves That would “help” the defensive side.
Sources say that “GM” Kyle Dubas is still intrigued by the idea, but it’s not easy to pull off. He was told that three teams would need to field if the Penguins were to acquire him. Dubas came close on July 1st and should keep trying.
