Matt Seekers: “The acquisition window opens on Friday. Do you hear any names? Do you think we’ll see buys as soon as Friday or the beginning of the week?”
Dreger: “Yeah, I think we’ll probably do that. Early week, oh.
The team I’m focusing on is Winnipeg, right? There was a lot of speculation about the possibilities of trading with the big names – (Connor) Helbwick, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Marc Chevelle.
What will they eventually do with Blake Wheeler? And, you know, maybe it’s early, maybe it’s early, but, you know, Blake Wheeler is a hockey player. He’s had a solid career. Can he help a team? Yes, I think he could in a more limited capacity than was required in Winnipeg.
But to facilitate that trade, don’t you feel like you’ll have to keep a local piece or app, or both to find a trade fit? Or is the acquisition easier and cleaner?
I tend towards acquisition. You know in Vancouver the monarchy doesn’t like having this dead money on the books, they don’t like it. They put it on management, and they find a way to keep the books clean, but there are times when you get into these situations where you really don’t have a choice. And that could be the case with Blake Wheeler and Winnipeg.”
