Michael Angelo: Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares when asked if he would consider waiving the no-movement clause: “I love it here.”
So it doesn’t look like he’s open to leaving Toronto.s
Luke Fox from SportsnetWilliam Nylander has the most heavily traded contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs’ primary forward group. Everything will be on the table with the Maple Leafs this off-season.
Chris Johnston from North StarBets: The Toronto Maple Leafs haven’t been attacked by their skilled squad when they need it most.
Goaltender Matt Murray carries a $4.7 million cap and can’t be counted on to be healthy.
John Tavares will turn 33 at the start of next season and may not be able to lead play with the same intensity. Center depth could also be an issue with UFA center Ryan O’Reilly, David Kampf and Noel Acciari. The position market is a bit soft this year which could be good news for players looking to make money.
The Leafs will get about $14 million in projected space (assuming Jake Muzzin is on LTIR again) with nine forwards, six defensemen and two goaltenders under contract.
Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner will have immobility clauses after July 1st. William Nylander would have a 10-team no-trade clause that day as well
Everything has to be considered out of season. There is no guarantee that GM Kyle Dubas will return.
Steve Simmons from the Toronto SunWill Brendan Shanahan return with the Toronto Maple Leafs? Will General Manager Kyle Dubas return? Will Coach Sheldon Keefe return?
Auston Matthews and William Nylander have one year left on their contracts and are they interested in long-term signings with the Leafs, and/or do the Leafs want to extend it?
The Leafs have to find a way to re-sign Matthews, because he’s “too cool not to sign”. The same can be said about Nylander. You can’t replace Mitch Marner, so you have to keep him. John Tavares, it seems impossible to trade the no-trade clause and contract.
Dubas would quickly find a new job. Pittsburgh Penguins and Calgary Flames without GM.
