Naftali Clinton from the Daily Vesuv: Frank Servalli on Daily Faceoff Live with Tyler Yaremchuk talks about the Vancouver Canucks and their need for a salary transfer this season.
Serravalle says he’s been told the Canucks have been calling out over the past few weeks to estimate the cost of moving some of their contracts.
“The main focal point is that the Canucks are active in trying to move Connor Garland’s salary. I heard Brock Boeser say at the end of the season that he really didn’t want to be traded. It’s still definitely possible for them to find a new home for Boeser. And they always have a glass breaker just in case. Emergency play with JT Miller before the no-trade clause kicks in on July 1. Garland is someone they’ve really done with the term remaining in his deal and it might provide some flexibility. So Garland is one of the names they’ve been focusing on.”
The price is steep because they’re hoping someone takes over a year’s worth of his contract and close to $5 million a season (referring to Garland).
NHL Rumors: The Vancouver Canucks are open to all possibilities within reason
Crown: Canucks Central’s Frank Serravalle: “The Canucks have been somewhat active in conversations with teams to at least understand the cost pricing of offloading contracts. There’s been a lot of focus on Garland… up to this point the prices have been way too high… teams want picks.” correspondingly high.”
Sportsnet 650: Mike Halford on the Vancouver Canucks salary cap issues this offseason.

Halford: “I really wonder if this keeps Patrick Alvin up at night. And Jim Rutherford up at night.
Jason Brough: “It’s a very stressful situation”
Halford: “They’re sitting there with, ‘Man, I wonder what we need to do in order to get off the paycheck.'” Are we going to have to give the sweetener we really don’t want to give up say Connor Garland? “
Let’s say what a good NHL player he is. Like a legitimate NHL player who can play on your second line or your third line. It’s good at five out of five. Is he a perfect NHL player? Of course, it is not. not him. There are problems with Conor Garland’s game.
But then again, the Canucks have three overpaid wingers at this point. Connor Garland, Brock Bowser, and (Anthony) Beauvilliers. I think at this point they would accept transferring any one of them, but the question is, how much would it actually cost them to do that, and then, where does that leave them?
Are they then just ceiling compliant with the inability to identify weaknesses in the team and address these issues?
I wonder if this keeps Patrick Alvin up at night. He’s in a position where you’re like, “How are we going to do this?” Like, I’d like to think he’s got a set of irons on fire. Well, okay, if this is not done, then we can go to this. We’ve had previous conversations with this team and they’ve shown interest. etc etc etc.
Things change quickly in the off-season. It often resembles a game of musical chairs and we have often seen the Canucks without a chair. Without a dance partner to make deals with. And that’s why we saw what happened last season where they tried. They tried to get rid of the salary. They couldn’t do it, and they were like, “Okay, we will, we’ll kick the can on the way to this off-season.”
NHL Rumors: There’s always a chance that the Vancouver Canucks will find a team to move around some salary
Well, the season has arrived and the next couple of months are going to be very important for the Canucks.
