Curtis Pachelka: San Jose Sharks General Manager Mike Greer on whether acquisition is an option on the table: “Right now, I would say no. It’s not something we want to drive constantly. So I would say no, but obviously things can It changes if there are steps we need to take or deals that happen. But for now, I’d probably say no.”

NHL rumours: Could Alex DeBrincat be on the move? Would the Red Wings be interested?
Curtis Pachelka: If the Sharks are going to win the draft lottery or pick out of the top two, Grier doesn’t want that to change their plans and speed up the process in free agency.
Grier doesn’t want to “go out and spend money (on UFA) and then in three years’ time we’ll regret what we did. We still have to kind of stick to our plan.”
Curtis Pachelka: GM Grier on future position striker Kevin Labanc: “I can’t say if he’ll be here. We’ll see what happens in the summer and what presents itself… We’re always looking to improve the roster or do things that I think are right for the organisation.”
- Curtis Pachelka: Labanc on his future in San Jose: “I don’t know what’s going to happen, trades happen around the draft. So we’ll see where things go. If I get traded, it’ll be great in San Jose, but we’ll see. Right now, I don’t have any plans for that.” .
Curtis Pachelka: Greer on defenseman Erik Carlsson: “If there’s interest in him, we’ll listen to him and see if it makes sense and if something happens. We’ll take it to Erik. But as it stands now, he’s a big part of our team.”
Corey MacIsaac from The AthleticSan Jose Sharks linebacker Erik Carlsson on speculation about whether he will be with the Sharks for the 2023-24 season.
“There will be a lot of talk and speculation and stuff, but I’m still the same — I don’t really know what the future holds,” Carlson said. “I can’t anticipate that. I’m trying to take care of the present and I think I’ve done a good job this year. That’s how I’m going to handle the next little bit too.”
Carlson said he wanted to win. Teams will have more flexibility in capping this season to take up the remaining four years at $11.5 million. He will be 33 years old next season.
“(Grier and I) haven’t really had those discussions yet. We’ll see. I think it was hard to lose Timo. It hurts, but at the same time I think it also says a little bit about where we stand, at least that’s the way you look at it as a player.” .
NHL rumours: Erik Carlsson hits 100 points and is his time in San Jose coming to an end?
Age and his contract will be an issue for some. There were deadline talks with the Edmonton Oilers but the Sharks wouldn’t hold back enough money for the Oilers to do so.
The Sharks will pick the top six this year, and if they trade Karlsson this off-season, they’ll likely have another top pick next year and some financial flexibility.
