The Philadelphia Flyers were listening to goaltender Carter Hart
Now Chuck Bauseman of Philadelphia Hockey: Philadelphia Flyers general manager Daniel Breyer was on Radio 94.1 on Saturday and said he would listen to trade offers for the 24-year-old, starting goaltender Carter Hart.
“Most likely Carter will be our goalkeeper in the future, but I’m not in a position to say no to anything. I have to listen.”
Last season, Hart had a 2.94 GAA and a 0.907 save percentage with a record of 22-23-10.
NHL rumours: Could the salary cap be a bit higher than expected and what will the Canucks do?
When John Tortorella was hired prior to last season, management spoke to him about some of the question marks they had with Hart, but at the end of the season, Tortorella said he didn’t see any of those question marks.
“I haven’t seen for a second. I think he’s handled himself well this year. He’s probably our most consistent player. The ups and downs, where we are as a team. He’s just playing. He was a really good professional.”
The Columbus Blue Jackets can name a new head coach within two days
Aaron Bortzlin Athlete: Columbus Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kikalainen said Saturday that their interview for the head coaching position is over unless they need to do a second interview with someone to clear something up.
Kikalainen will return to Columbus Monday night after being in Finland for the World Championships. They have a new coach to be named by Wednesday or Thursday.
Strong candidates include Andrew Brunet, Kirk Mueller, Patrick Roy, Pascal Vincent and Travis Green.
It is unlikely that Peter Laviolette and Mike Babcock will be hired.
They are not appointed Joel Quenneville and Sergey Fedorov.
NHL Rumors: Buyouts, Chicago Blackhawks, and Vancouver Canucks
The Edmonton Oilers should not trade Darnell Nurse or Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
Sportsnet’s Marc Spector: (Mailbag) You wouldn’t trade defenseman Darnell Nurse, not the offensive-minded Eric Carlson. If they were to consider trading the nurse, someone like Adam Larsson, Brayden McNabb, Jonas Broden or a Matthias Ekholm clone would be better off defending.
Forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had a disappointing playoff run, but that doesn’t mean you trade him in and he hit his $5.125 million cap.
