GM Mike Greer will not give Eric Carlson Away but the price may come down
Curtis Pashelka from Mercury News: Not surprisingly, Eric Carlson, his delegates, and the San Jose Sharks were willing to try and find a deal. Finding a trade for Carlson’s four years at $11.5 million won’t be easy. Carlson has a no-movement clause so he’ll get the final stamp of approval.
The cap for this year is only up by $1 million but is expected to rise in the $3 million range per season for 2024 and 2025, making Carlson’s contract a little easier to swallow. After a 101-point season, his value must be high.
Sharks GM Mike Greer after the season.
“There are a lot of moving pieces to a deal like that,” Grier said at the end of the regular season when asked about trading Karlsson. “I think it’s something that’s definitely easier in the off-season when teams can kind of prepare and make the moves they need to make against a player like Eric.
“I imagine there will be more interest in it, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
Not only will Grier give Karlsson away, but he may have to lower his asking price. He denied a report asking to be selected three times in the first round. The Sharks only have one slot left to hold on to the payroll.
