The navigators contact the pilots about KONECNY
Edmonton Magazine: Kurt Levins cited a source connected to Travis Konicney He claims the Oilers are among the clubs he has reached out to Philadelphia Flyers On the availability of the 26-year-old winger.
Konecny has a year left on his contract with an average annual value of $5.5 million. Levins speculates that the London, Ontario native will not hesitate to sign a long-term deal with a Canadian team.
the athlete: Charlie O’Connor cited teammate Pierre LeBron’s report last week claiming the Flyers’ rebuilding would listen if any teams “stepped up” on Conicne. However, he doesn’t think the Flyers particularly want to trade him. O’Connor noted that general manager Daniel Breyer is a huge fan of the winger, both as a player and as a person.
Bystander note: Briere’s amazing trade for Ivan Provorov Last week indicated that the flyers are open for business. He also indicated after this step that he would listen to offers from everyone. This does not mean that he will sell at a bargain price but he does his due diligence by assessing the commercial value of his players.
Briere could trade Konecny for the right offer, which is likely to be a returner that has at least a high draft pick and/or a high prospect as part of the package. However, he is under no pressure to move the winger this summer. Konecny is a year away from unrestricted free agent eligibility, but it wouldn’t be shocking if he and the Flyers agreed to a contract extension if he was willing to buy the rebuild and if they saw him as an essential part in the process.
It’s also understandable why the Oilers inquired about Konecny, whose performance was among the few bright spots in the Flyers’ season. They will have to compete with many other clubs as he can attract a lot of interest if he is available.
There are no contract talks yet between the papers and BUNTING
Hockey News: David Alter reported that there were no contract negotiations between Toronto Maple Leafs And Michael Bunting. The 27-year-old winger is set to become a UFA player on July 1. Bunting’s agent, Paul Capizzano, said Friday that he has not yet had any discussions with Brad Treliving, the Leafs’ new general manager.
Cap space could be a factor in whether Bunting has a future with the Leafs. Alter noted that they have just over $9 million available for 2023-24 with 15 of the 23 active players on the roster under contract.
Spectator note: The Toronto Star’s Suggested by Nick Kyprios Bunting could get between $4.5 million and $5 million on the open market. It’s based on an $8.5 million, two-year contract he signed Andreas Athanasio last week with Chicago Blackhawks. Like Alter, Kypreos believes it could cost Toronto out of re-signing Bunting.
Another list of purchased candidates
Athlete: Thomas Drance and Harman Dayal recently compiled a list of potential purchase candidates. The annual contract takeover window opens on June 15 or 48 hours after the conclusion of the last game of the Stanley Cup Final, whichever is later. The end date is June 30 at 5 p.m. ET.
Players aged 26 and over during that period can be purchased for two-thirds of the remaining value of their contract over twice the remaining term. For those under the age of 26, it accounts for a third of the remaining value.
Edmonton Oilers wing Kyler Yamamoto Their list topped, followed by Dallas stars Defender Ryan SouterAnd Boston Bruins blueliner Mike RileyAnd Pittsburgh Penguins wing Michael Granlund.
Bystander note: If these names sound familiar, they also appeared on the Daily Faceoff list Potential candidates for purchase. We duly noted this listing on June 5th.
Others included Toronto Maple Leafs Goalkeeper Matt MurrayAnd Washington Capitals wing Anthony ManthaAnd Seattle Kraken Goalkeeper Chris DredgerAnd St. Louis Blues Defender Marco ScandellaAnd Arizona Coyotes Defender Patrick Nemeth And Vancouver Canucks blueliner Oliver Ekman Larson and wings Brook Bowser And Connor Garland.
Bystander note: I agree with most of these picks except for those three Canucks picks. Drance and Dayal acknowledged Canucks GM Patrik Allvin’s stated preference not to buy contracts as well as impractical cap issues in buying Ekman-Larsson based on his long-term contract structure.
Boeser or Garland will likely be traded. Trade rumors surrounding Bowser have subsided in recent weeks as the Canucks appear eager to keep him. Garland appears to be the Canuck most likely to become a cost-cutting business candidate.
However, Drance and Dayal point out that the Canucks may have no choice but to go the acquisition route if they run out of options to gain the ultimate flexibility before June 30th.
Shame on the Bruins is a minor shame Mitchell Miller also appeared on their list. The less you talk about it, the better.
