The team announced Monday that the UConn men’s basketball program will make a trip to the White House on Friday, May 26, where it will be honored by President Joe Biden for winning the 2023 NCAA Championship.
The time of the celebration has not been determined. According to the team’s version, UConn’s travel team will take a one-day trip to Washington, D.C., fly in Friday morning and depart after the ceremony.

“It doesn’t show up on your caller ID, like Joe Biden,” Hurley told The Athletic. “I just assumed that when the President calls you, there will be someone to interrupt your call and say, ‘The Chief is on the line.’ So yeah, I’m on the phone with a ’24 recruiter I’ve never seen and I miss a call from the President of the United States. But I got a voicemail. ”
Biden took to Twitter after the national championship game, posting, “UConn is back in glory with a string of dominant performances that are often great to watch. Congratulations to the team on building a program that is set to build on that success.”
This will be the fifth trip to the White House for the UConn men’s program. The Huskies were honored in 1999 by President Bill Clinton, the Huskies received an invitation from President George W. Bush in 2004, and President Barack Obama honored UConn in both 2011 and 2014.
