UFC on ESPN 49, headlined by Tom Aspinall and Marcin Tebora, is set to descend July 22, 2023, live from the o2 Arena in London, England.
We have a very interesting bout recently added to the upcoming lineup in the Featherweight division between Nathaniel Wood (19-5) and Andre Fili (22-9, 1 NC).
Nathaniel Wood came to the UFC with a lot of hype surrounding his name.
Wood, a protege of Brad Beckett, joined the UFC roster in 2018 as the Fighting Cage bantamweight champion, a title he defended twice before joining. He came on a 5-win streak, all 5 wins via the end (4 knockouts, 1 submission), and quickly grabbed the 3 consecutive surrender wins upon his arrival.
These wins featured defeating the likes of BJJ black belt Johnny Eduardo (D’Arce choke), Andre Ewell (rear naked choke), and Jose Alberto Quinonez (rear naked choke).
This was all done in the space of roughly nine months, before he suffered his first promotional defeat to former flyweight contender John Dodson (TKO). Wood rebounded by defeating John Castaneda (UD), before losing again, this time to Casey Kinney (UD).
Wood has since moved up to 145lbs, as he currently holds a winning streak over the likes of Charles Rosa (UD) and Charles Jordan (UD).
Andre Fili, on the other hand, has been in the UFC since 2013, picking up a second-round knockout victory in his promotional debut that improved his record to 13-1 in the process (only defeat coming via injury).
After his debut, many people pegged him to have as much success as Conor McGregor; His precise, accurate and effective batting sounded amazing, and he made a lot of hype for his name. It was one hell of a debut.
However, he would lose his next fight to eventual champion Max Holloway (guillotine choke), and has fluctuated between wins and losses ever since, never winning more than twice in a row after joining the UFC in eight fights. consecutive gains.
There were two decisions that could have gone easily, however, when he lost to Michael Johnson (SD) and Siddig Yusuf (UD). Had he gotten a nod in those two fights, he would have had a seven-game winning streak from 2017 to 2020.
However, it is has not been Looking back at those fights. However, he boasts solid wins over the likes of Gabriel Benitez (KO), Hekran Dias (UD), Artem Lobov (UD), Dennis Bermudez (SD), Miles Gorey (UD), Shimon Moraes (KO) and Charles Jordan (SD). . ), and most recently Bill Algeo (SD) back in September of last year.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was browsing channels and landed on Versus, which is where WEC was on TV. Uriah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. This is the first fight I’ve ever seen, and I got addicted to it instantly. Eventually, I started covering the sport in the last quarter of 2018, and since then I’ve started writing about animals as well.
