Showtime has released a clip from the second episode of the four-part documentary series Catching Lightning. In the clip, notorious martial arts fighter ‘Lightning’ Lee Murray states that he did not know a child would be involved in the kidnapping that was part of the 2006 Securitas warehouse cash heist of around £53m in cash (over $92m). Dollars (USD at the time) were stolen. The episode begins show time This Sunday, April 16th at 8 PM EST/PT and available now on the streaming and Showtime On Demand platforms.
The clip features a dramatic re-enactment of the kidnapping, filmed at the actual crime scene in Herne Bay, Kent, England, backed by audio from a previously unheard conversation, previously recorded in the prison. In the recording, Murray reveals that he was unaware that a young child would be in the home of Colin Dixon, the general manager of Securitas Depot, and became collateral during the kidnapping of Dixon’s wife. Disguised as police officers, the robbers make an immediate decision to kidnap not only their target, but the 8-year-old as well.
“None of us knew he had a baby, a little baby anyway,” says Murray in the recorded prison conversation provided by one of Murray’s closest friends, Pard. “This has just come out on us at the moment. We’re clearly a long way down the road to turn back.”
Directed by two-time Emmy® Award winner Pat Condilis (Rage and Shame), Catching Lightning tells the surreal story of the 2006 Securitas warehouse robbery in Great Britain through new interviews, startling revelations, and previously unheard of aspects of the heist. The four-part series was produced by Kondelis’ award-winning film and television production team at Bat Bridge Entertainment, and is executive produced by Kondelis and Jody M.
