Michael Block, the teaching professional who finished 15th at the PGA Championship last month, failed in his bid to qualify for next week’s US Open.
Block scored a 36-hole par of 5-under 135 at Lambton Golf & Country Club in Toronto on Monday to finish close to qualifying. Twenty-seven players contested three places at Lambton. Block finished in sixth place, two shots out of third place.
Medalists Ryan Gerrard (11-under), Vincent Norman (8-under) and Ryan Armor (7-under) clinched the three qualifying spots on the field.
Block teaches in California but is in Canada this week for the PGA Tour’s RBC Canadian Open, which he was invited by the sponsor after his participation in Cinderella on the PGA.
His son Dylan Block also tried to qualify for the US Open on Monday but made a good comeback on the 89-player court at Hillcrest Country Club in Los Angeles.
Monday saw the final, 36-hole qualifying tournament at 10 courses across North America. The US Open will be held next week at the Los Angeles Country Club.
